Summary Review of The Breakdown

Aired in Winter of 2023, Farming Life in Another World brings an enjoyable, laid-back viewing experience with decent quality animation, fun episodic stories, and immersive voice lines. With fairly decent animation supporting the overall relaxed vibe of the show, Farming Life in Another World keeps your eyes interested on consistent visual world building and funny stylistic changes. Story-wise, the show brings a nice change of pace with a combination of slow world building and a flurry of changing cast characters. Voices in the show bring out the most in the characters with a wide intensity of emotions conveyed.
Overall, Farming Life in Another World is a charming show to sit back and relax to.

As the main studio, Zero-G was founded in June of 2011. However, their foray into TV anime has only just started with their oldest show airing in 2016 and their start into Isekai began with this show.

3D

Appearing occasionally and mostly in wood products, 3D foreground objects fit fairly nicely when compared to their surroundings. On first glance, you might not even realize that some of the objects are actually 3D! Despite this good stylization of the objects, certain scenes with 3D stick out like a sore thumb. For example, in episode 5, when Hiraku plays Mahjong with wooden tiles, although nicely detailed, they still look glaringly 3D. Especially when the characters flip the tiles and show their hands.
Otherwise, foreground 3D objects look entirely fine!

Well-crafted 3D wooden mug almost looks hand-drawn in this frame.

Special Effects

Surprisingly, Farming Life in Another World has only occasional special effects, unlike many other shows in the Isekai genre. Common occurrences of things like magic SFX or fire typically happen in the background where its used to make the environment feel more alive. However, unlike most anime, Farming Life in Another World also uses lens flares and sharp glares to gently add subtle emotion into a scene. Although not entirely original in concept, the niche use of warm colors combined with a circular lens flare rarely ever pops up in TV anime, but it fits incredibly well in this context.

Great use of colors and SFX with the lens flare and glint.
Oddly enough, although the designs of the characters look fairly consistent next to its manga counterpart, the eyes in Farming Life in Another World all have a rather unique feature. On the edge of the eyes, each character has a tiny little triangle adding a strange depth to the faces. Despite this oddity which may take a little bit of time getting used to, the character art has many great perks with sharp and fluid animations in the beginning of the show. Unfortunately, with the addition of more cast later down the line, some of the quality is cut for quantity. Overall, it doesn't affect the visual flow too much though.
Furthermore, the show also follows the manga with the cute changes in art style that frequently occur when there's some sort of action or gag. It makes for a nice enhancement for the anime and stays true to the source material.

Stylistic change in art representing a visual gag as well as an action sequence.
Background art has its ups and downs in this show. On one hand, the art accurately represents changes in the village with a keen attention to detail. Most scenes outdoors take place with a forested background, thus a lack of diversity in terms of background art. Unfortunately, the background art also suffers due to painfully obvious 3D such as the nearby river being constructed mostly out of 3D ground.
Following the slice of life template and combining it with Isekai, Farming Life in Another World refreshingly brings a slow, almost cottagecore vibe to anime with the protagonist, Machio Hiraku, wanting to live a "my-pace" style life on a farm, away from the city after dying in his own world. Because of this, we can follow Hiraku's journey to create a living space for himself by learning how to survive in another world's wilderness together with him. Furthermore, due to the episodic nature of the show, each story brings a refreshing touch to the overarching plot, with new characters consistently being introduced and puns kept fresh. Furthermore, although Hiraku remains mostly one-dimensional throughout the show, the heroines like Ru Rurushi and Tia grow alongside the village as they learn to enjoy the slow and harmonious lifestyle Hiraku tries to promote.

    Voice Acting

With a talented cast of voice acting veterans from the likes of Atsushi  Abe who has famously voiced Touma from Toaru Majutsu no Index and Machico, voice of Tokai Teio from Uma Musume and opening artist of KonoSuba, characters in Farming Life in Another World all demonstrate a wide array of vocal capabilities. Each character feels endearing because of the sometimes bizarre, endearing, or hectic scenes the voice actors must vocalize. The voice acting in this show actively helps push the characters to taller heights and emphasizes the fun life they live.

    Soundtrack

With a nice higher tempo opening when compared to the slower tempo ending, with the opening sung by cast members and the ending sung by the vTuber agency NeoPorte's Hizuki Yui (緋月ゆい), both songs have nice catchy rhythms and juxtapose each other nicely. Furthermore, the background tracks for the show are fairly unique for anime, although similar to songs in the same genre of fantasy slice of life.
